The project has its foundation tied to the original home of the San Francisco Chronicle Building which was commissioned by publisher M.H. de Young and designed by the famed Chicago architectural firm Burnham and Root – the team that created such well-known structures as New York's Flatiron Building, Union Station in Washington D.C. and Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History. First built in 1889, it was the tallest skyscraper in the West. Through a blend of “old and new”, our architects, The Offices of Charles F.
